Women's Cycling Day- October 14, 2023
Join Bicycle Industry Suppliers, Independent Bicycle Dealers, Advocacy Organizations, Membership Clubs, Groups and Individuals nationwide in celebrating a dedicated day celebrating women’s cycling
When is it?
Women’s Cycling Day is celebrated the second Saturday of October each year. The 2023 event is Saturday October 14, 2023.
How was the day created?
Women’s cycling day was dreamt up in 2020 between 2 cycling industry veterans; Heather Mason and Lauren Hefferon. Mason an advocate for the sport of cycling worked with bicycle industry and shops to give formality to the day. Combining mutual energy and resources gave development to planning for a dedicated day celebrating women’s cycling.
How can you participate?
Women’s Cycling Day is celebrated annually within Independent Bicycle shops, Cycling Clubs and Communities. Organizations and individuals are encouraged to use the day to organize and host experiences such as, festivals, rides, awareness campaigns and other activities to both celebrate and encourage women’s cycling. Participate by joining a scheduled event/ ride or creating and leading one yourself.
Stay involved year round.
Join us the second Saturday of each month as we celebrate Women’s Cycling as a whole. We refer to these monthly ride events as the building blocks to our annual event day in October. Plan a ride, attend a shop event, share your love for cycling on your social feeds, and get out in your Women’s Cycling kit and ride. Like and Follow our social feeds for take part in events each month.
Ride.
Plan and organize a women’s only ride. Encourage family, friends and new faces to attend. Lead routes for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders. Include a stop for coffee and conversation or follow up the ride with a social gathering. Plan a ride for Mothers and Daughters. Share your pictures and adventures online.
Be you!
Share your passion on social media with a dedicated post about your cycling journey. Include the history of the sport, the products you love and the places your bike has taken you. Write and share your story and how cycling has made a profound impact on your life. Share the friendships you have made along the way, and who you have introduced to cycling!
Give Back.
Use the day to work with local bike shops, community and government organizations to host a women’s event. At the event talk about upcoming ride opportunities, showcase places to ride, or focus on women’s specific products. Discuss ways to engage more riders and make routes safer.
In a time of Social Distancing
We encourage women to share their passion for cycling within their online communities. Using dedicated social posts, we encourage female cyclists of all ages to begin by posting their favorite cycling related photo with a story about why you ride. Have you introduced a female friend to the sport? Go ahead and share a great cycling photo of her and how you helped her find cycling. Be sure to tag your friend and #womenscyclingday in your posts! As October draws near, if the landscape allows group rides or clinics, let’s be sure to promote and advocate for such events.
